If you could give 1 piece of advice to someone in education, what would it be?
“Love what you do, recognize your strengths as well as your limitations, and take pleasure in building relationships with your students, parents, and other stakeholders. Do not let your students settle for anything less than what you know they are capable of achieving. Keep in mind that every day is a new opportunity for your students to learn and grow. Make the most of every teachable moment and watch your students shine!”
How has being a union member helped you?
Being a member of my local and thus the state and national unions has opened my eyes to the escalating issues surrounding education today. Specifically, my membership has allowed me to participate in state and national conferences, attend various types of professional development and workshops, and be a part of a united voice to address concerns over proposed education policies that negatively impact students. In addition, being a union member has afforded me opportunities to grow networks and meet local, state, and national politicians who are public-education-friendly. Finally, as a union member, I participate as a Coach in the NEA Early Leadership Institute (ELI).
